fuck the police (in this fine city of los angeles)

during this morning’s commute,  i decided to stop at the bank to deposit a check. i was driving a little slower than normal because i wasn’t quite sure where it was.

flashing lights behind me. okay, so i pull onto a side street. no idea what i did, so i thought maybe i had a tail light out or something.

the cop approaches and tells me i was TALKING ON MY CELL PHONE. what? he says “i saw you on your phone and you flipped it shut when you saw me.”

huh? i hadn’t even touched my phone since i got in the car. i was pretty shell-shocked, and managed to stutter out a “sir, i was definitely not on my phone.”

so he asks to look at it, and as i hand it over he asks “so how did i know you had a flip phone?” oh, i don’t know, because that is maybe a popular style of phone? (also, you don’t flip my phone to make calls, idiot)

i assure him he is free to look at the call log, since i am pretty sure i didn’t just make a phone call and forget about it. i throw in a lot of “sir”s and make sure to be as polite in possible in explaining to him that he is totally fucking wrong.

he plays nice and tells me that a lot of people get scared, and he doesn’t really feel like writing a citation. so, if i just “tell the truth” he will let me off with a warning.

since i WAS ALREADY telling the truth, i explain, once again, that i was not on my phone, and if i was, i would surely say so.

he asks for my license, registration and insurance and i had it over, so furious i am almost shaking.

now, if i was actually caught talking on my cell phone, i would admit it, and deal with the repercussions like a big girl. but i didn’t, and refused to lie about it - so i get punished for that?

i now have a court date for december 7th, so even more people’s time can get wasted with an absolute bullshit infraction.
